You surely have a point Nicholas. Regulating the earning is not the key. The centrestage anyway has moved from players to franchisees and sponsors. However, players do gain since now the payment is as per performance, and they have to leave the security of their national team where something called "reputation" was also part of the security package.

It's going to be exciting, though nostalgically we may miss the inter country challenges in times to come.

New UK Cricket Rules and Regulations - June 2008

Any Cricket Players / Supporters check this…

Just been reading the new cricket regulations that come out, one new regulation in particular that stands out to me, stating the English cricket board are basically putting a cap on UK twenty20 players earnings per game and within season???… u think this is right??? I don’t!… wont this just encourage cricket players to play outside the UK? out the way of an out of touch and outdated English cricket Board?? Twenty20 Cricket is a new style of game which has taken the cricketing world by storm. It is a whole new ball game, an enhancement of the one day game to make the game fast, furious and instant. It has had the effect of brining a new audience to the sport. It is full of action and appealing to the younger crowd. The purists of the game don't like it, but if it brings large crowds in to watch cricket, it has to be good for the game! Paying cricket players large salaries is needed to fit cricket into a modern era of sport. co. along siding the success of UK football. Reflecting on footballers wages, why cant cricket players get paid the same to via twenty20?? It Seems to me the ecb are scared of this change in cricket hense these new regulations.
There are some other new regulations that also seem a little odd to me?… check um out for yourself… Quite an interesting read some of these new cricket rules!.. Click on the Website link below for full listings of all the new Cricket Regulations…

Sure Manish, it does deserve a higher ranking. However, that's about ranking which is given before and not after an event. Surely, it was ranked 5th in this forum which is not bad, and which meant that it could just be one of the teams that go through to the semi finals. And I think that the line up for semi final looks to be tough enough with Mohali-Jaipur-Delhi-Chennai look a trifle ahead at the moment. But, don't discount the other teams. At least 1-2 of them can occupy a seat in the final moments through a comeback.

Surely a nice analysis, but a major presumption in this is that batting, bowling and fielding weigh in equally. That is something no one has yet unraveled. I drew out another list based on 2007 performances of players of all teams and considered just 11 players in each team (those who played the maximum matches) and came up with this:

Ranking Team	2006	Points
1 Australia	2 450.54
2 South Africa	1 449.11
3 New Zealand 3 424.61
4 Pakistan 7 404.56
5 Sri Lanka 5 388.97
6 Kenya 16 383.36
7 India 8 378.67
8 West Indies 12	373.07
9 Enqland 4 373.02
10 Canada 9	366.56
11 Zimbabwe 13 348.59
12 Netherlands 11 339.53

14 Bangladesh 10 297.69
15 Scotland 15	283.65
16 Bermuda 14 228.14

My rankings are based on 'relative' strengths, not on absolute runs, wickets, etc. As per my system, the ranks for 2007 are given below indicating number of matches, batting strength, bowling strength, fielding strength and overall strength. 1) Australia - 34 - 957 - 1000 - 873 - 1000

With Yuvraj back, you can change the Indian batting estimates by 10 runs, and the match probabilities by 10% additional towards India.

I need to correct the score predictions, since I didn't include the extras at some places. So assuming about 20 extras on an average and 10 extra if we only take into account no-balls and wides. So the revised score estimates are:

Australia bats first, it is most likely to win. The likely score bands:

Australia: 273/325 (based on the average score by Australia batting first in a home series in 2007, and the average score based on the players playing in this match.

India: 256/284 (based on the average score by India batting second in 2007 in an away series, and the average score based on the players playing in this match. Actually with Yuvraj not playing the average scores may go down by another 6-10 runs)

Australia may win by a margin of 10-70 runs in 90% cases. With 10% probability of a 2-5 wicket loss.

If India bats first, it has a 30% chance of victory. The likely score bands:

India: 271/284 (based on the average score by India batting first in 2007 in an away series, and the average score based on the players playing in this match. Actually with Yuvraj not playing the average scores may go down by another 6-10 runs)
Australia: 273/298 (based on the average score by Australia batting second in a home series in 2007, and the average score based on the players playing in this match.)

India may win by 5-10 runs in 30% cases, else Australia may win by 3-6 wickets in 70% cases. (the probability has been altered since the impact of extras has increased the Australian chances).

Do note that on individual days the scores can vary highly but the average impact could remain near to this.

Well the match was a low scoring affair with India in trouble once again scoring just 194 in 45 overs. However, rain saved the day for them, with Australia at 50 for 3 however looking set to score the remaining 91 runs in 18.4 overs when rain interrupted for the final time during a rain marred day. Honours shared. India should play Praveen Kumar next time, and hope Yuvraj recovers fast. Raina may get a look in next time.
