The Great Race!

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

It’s a great race to score runs between Sachin, Sehwag and Yuvraj! Let’s see who wins this race!! They’ve already totaled more than 1000 runs (1062 to be exact) in this world cup. And the next team is Sri Lanka, with their top 3 having scored 910. Sure, they can catch up by the next match. But with Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli on their heels – it is the best set of 5 batsmen any country has in this world cup!

And the fact that Sachin has so far hit 8 sixes, which makes him the 3rd highest 6 hitter in this world cup, and you know where he’s heading. And Yuvraj has hit only 3 sixes! So now we know why Tendulkar has been so prolific, now that the rebel has come home.

You can look forward to India lifting the trophy once again. And you can say, “Jab Jab prithvi par kisi cricket team ney aatank failaya hai, tab tab ek Hindustani Veer Yodha Team ney janm liya hai!”

Only twice have a team won the World cup more than once in succession. And each of those times, they needed an Indian Team to stop them!

ODI Rankings 2010 are out!

Saturday, February 12th, 2011

My Cricket player rankings are out! And you won’t be able to easily guess who is the Most Valuable Player!!
A Total of 366 players took the field in 2010 as against 368 in 2009 (this number is getting smaller every year for the last few years).

I have put out different ODI Ranking lists for teams and players. Do check each one out!

ODI Team Rankings 2010 (all teams)
ODI Most Valuable Players – All Rounders 2010 (all teams)
ODI Batsmen Rankings 2010 (all teams)
ODI Bowler Rankings 2010 (all teams)
ODI Best Wicketkeepers/ Fielders 2010 (all teams)

You can check out previous year’s rankings here (ODI Team Rankings 2009)

India finished at the top in the ODI rankings this year. India had a phenomenal year and they won matches without their main batsmen at times. They rose to No. 1 in ranking. They won 12 out of 16 matches they played. South Africa came at No. 2 followed by West Indies, England and Australia.

Sachin Tendulkar played just 2 matches in 2010. However, by scoring the all-time high of 200* he made it to the top of the heap as the most valuable player of any team. He had a strike rate of 134! He beat the likes of AB de Villiers, Kallis, Amla, Flintoff, Sehwag, Pollock, Afridi, Maharoof, Yuvraj, and Gayle just like that!

Otherwise, AB de Villiers scored 964 runs in 16 matches at an average of 80.33 and a strike rate of 102 to come second in the list. Hold on. He also took 22 catches and 1 stumping to be a part of 23 dismissals.

Amla was the most explosive batsman on scene in 2010. He scored 1058 runs averaging 75.57 in just 15 matches and a strike rate of 104.23.

At the top of the heap is Ngoche of Kenya, who captured 13 wickets in the just 9 matches he played at 18.23 apiece. And he spent a miserly 3.08 runs per over to land right on top. He emerged out of nowhere in 2009 to be at the top in 2010.

IPL 2009 Player Rankings – MVP (Most Valuable Person)

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

This website had introduced the system of MVP long back, which has now become a standard term, the world over, to define what was earlier termed as an all-rounder.

This edition of IPL has again thrown up new talent and the most exciting amongst them in Manish Pandey (Kungfu Panda). However, the MVP of this edition was clearly Matthew Hayden of Chennai Super Kings. He got 572 runs at an average of 52 and a strike rate of 144.81. He struck 5 half-centuries in the process and hit 22 sixes and 60 fours. He also took 5 catches.

Next of course was van Wyk of Kolkata Knight Riders, who in just 5 matches scored 167 runs at an average of 55.66 runs at a strike rate of 126.51. He also came out as the best fielder grabbing 7 catches.

Manish Pandey (Kungfu Panda) scored 168 runs in the 5 matches he got at an average of 84 and a strike rate of 142.37. In the process he hit one century and struck 4 sixes and 17 fours. His fielding too was amazing and he took 4 catches besides saving many runs. If there is a possibility, he should be included in the Indian T20 team immediately.

Here’s a list of Top 10 MVPs:

S. No. Player Team
1 ML Hayden Chennai Super Kings
2 MN van Wyk Kolkata Knight Riders
3 M Pandey Royal Challengers Bangalore
4 AB de Villiers Delhi Daredevils
5 JP Duminy Mumbai Indians
6 AC Gilchrist Deccan Chargers
7 SK Raina Chennai Super Kings
8 TM Dilshan Delhi Daredevils
9 DR Smith Deccan Chargers
10 HH Gibbs Deccan Chargers

*These rankings are based on Teams who’ve played 5 matches or more. These rankings are prepared solely by myself based on owned algorithms.
